Green Village Initiative is committed to grow food, knowledge, leadership and community, through urban gardening and farming, to create a more just food system in Bridgeport, Connecticut. GVI is more than a garden. We are a living classroom, a shared table, and a force for change. Through urban farming and hands-on education, we work to dismantle systems of oppression and create a more equitable and resilient food system for all.OUR PROGRAMS Rooted in Bridgeport's neighborhoods, GVI's programs connect people of all ages to the land, to fresh food, and to each other. Reservoir Community Farm is GVI's 1.7-acre urban farm in the heart of Bridgeport — a working farm and community hub where neighbors come together to grow food, learn, and build something lasting. The farm hosts a weekly Farmers Market, educational field trips for school children, hands-on workshops, and seasonal community events open to all. Community Garden at Reservoir brings together community gardeners tending plots side by side, growing culturally relevant vegetables and building lasting connections with the land and with their neighbors. Youth Leadership Program is GVI's year-round investment in Bridgeport's next generation. Through paid summer farm work, leadership training, and food justice education, young people develop practical skills and the confidence to advocate for what matters to them and their communities. OUR CORE VALUES These values guide every decision GVI makes — from how we run the farm to how we show up for Bridgeport. Food Justice — Cooperative Community — Quality of Life — Anti-Racism — Equity and Compassion — Youth Leadership and Mentorship — Environmental Stewardship — Respect and Integrity
