Dogwood Literacy Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering adults through literacy and education. Founded by community members who recognized the need for accessible learning opportunities, the Council provides free, small-group classes and workshops to help adults improve their reading, writing, English language, and digital literacy skills. Our mission is to open doors of opportunity by equipping learners with the tools they need to thrive in their daily lives, whether that means gaining employment, supporting their children’s education, or simply engaging more confidently in the community. We serve a diverse population, including immigrants, refugees, and native English speakers, all of whom bring unique goals and stories to their learning journey. Dogwood Literacy Council’s programs include English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, digital literacy courses, citizenship preparation, and life skills workshops. Instruction is tailored to meet the specific needs of learners, allowing them to progress at their own pace in a supportive group setting. By building practical skills in reading, writing, and technology, we help our students achieve greater independence and self-sufficiency. Beyond academics, the Council fosters a sense of belonging and community. Our tutors and volunteers are dedicated individuals from across Northwest Arkansas who give their time, creativity, and encouragement to support learners. Together, we are building bridges across cultures, strengthening families, and creating a more connected and resilient community. Dogwood Literacy Council is sustained by donations, grants, and the commitment of local volunteers. Every hour of instruction and every dollar contributed helps transform lives through the power of education.
