SUMMARY
Reflection
The main goal of this project was to build a blessings box for my county's food pantry to hold non perishable food items. First I met with the pantry's director, Ms. Furlough, to answer to a social media post, requesting somebody to make a blessings box. After getting a vague idea of what they wanted, I started looking at basic box designs. During this time, I also received support from Precise Electrical Services, who provided materials. I was also looking for carpenters to volunteer, eventually hiring Mr. Brooks. After I got a verified design from the pantry, he and I met at a location provided by the donating company and began to build. Once the box was completed, the company owner and I proceeded to install it as directed by Ms. Furlough, whom I notified of the project's completion. In doing this project, I learned simple carpentry skills, the importance of time management, and organization.
Project Impact
In my community service project for the governor's page program, the initial goal was to build and install a blessing box for Tyrrell County's food pantry. With this box for their use, they would be able to stock it with non perishable foods, which would be available at anytime for anyone. This would particularly effect the approximately 800 out of 3,400 people in Tyrrell County who suffer from food insecurity. By installing the completed blessings box to the specifications of the pantry, on December 21st, this need was met. It is especially helpful to those who can't get food during the pantry's distribution hours. This use of the blessing box shows that this project will make an impact on my community. I think, and I believe the pantry shares my feelings when I say, that this project was an overall success.
