    SUMMARY
    Reflection
Throughout this project, I have learned the stresses and challenges of completing a service project. Up until the day of the project, we were unsure of how many people would show up. This was because many people didn’t get back to the Piedmont Mediation Community Service Coordinator. However, we ended up having a perfect number of people show up. This group of previous offenders were attentive and respectful throughout the presentation. Seeing the faces of people I have previously defended was nice and seeing how they are doing was a good feeling for me. I believe most people were paying attention when I was going over what the max sentences were for adults. Towards the end it seemed that the offenders were getting tired. Overall, this project has taught me how to communicate with individuals and how to maintain their attention throughout.
    Project Impact
With a total of 9 previous offenders showing up, it was easier to control the group and make sure that everyone was paying attention. At the end of the presentation about 2 of the previous offenders asked me to go back and review other material in the presentation. This 1 hour long presentation had other Teen Court volunteers and Piedmont Mediation leadership helping to explain to the group the justice system and its workings. I enjoyed hearing everybody’s personal goals and giving them advice on moving forward. The 2 other volunteers told me that they thought it went well and that the kids likely got a grasp of the justice system. One of the volunteers told me that he learned more about the juvenile justice system then he did when he was interning at the District Attorney’s Office. Hearing the feedback and the questions makes me feel confident that there was a high retention rate.
    PROJECTS TASKS
    Page Week
10.00 hours participating in an awareness event | Respect
Program was informative and engaging. Learned about and met state officials which truly made this experience incredible!
    Project Planning
2.50 hours leading an initiative | Curiosity
Alongside Piedmont Mediation, I led an initiative to lead a project to teach juveniles about the justice system and other ways their actions could have led them.
    Do the Project
4.50 hours leading an initiative | Connectedness
I led a presentation to a group of previous offenders on how the justice system works, ways to move forward, and other ways the case could have moved throughout the Juvenile Justice System.
    Project Outcomes & Reflection
1.00 hour leading an initiative | Spirituality
Seeing the eyes looking up and head nodding, I was able to know that people were actually listening. When I heard questions beginnings to be asked about what things mean in the DOJJ flow chart I was able to know that there was an active audience and people actually learning from the presentation.
