SUMMARY
Reflection
Working to plan this student engagement forum at Chapel Hill High School with Congresswoman Valerie Foushee was a rewarding challenge. Acting as a liaison between my school's administration and her scheduler/communications team was a good lesson in professional communication and navigating hurdles. There were definitely some ups and downs – planning everything myself for both sides, coordinating schedules to find a date, working out logistics – but it was rewarding when it all came together.
Project Impact
Approx. 150 students attended our Q&A in the auditorium to hear from Rep. Foushee and learn about civic engagement, advocacy, and current events in politics. Even students who weren't familiar with politics or didn't think they would be interested walked away having learned a lot, and were glad they came. Students who otherwise wouldn't have gotten the opportunity got to see and hear from their US Congresswoman directly and receive personal advice.
