Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) empowers veterans and families of fallen heroes to develop character in future generations. As youth leaders, we are challenging you to rise to the occasion in helping honor those brave men and women who selflessly served our country for Veterans Day.
STEP 2: Share your gratitude with a veteran by writing TWO letters or drawing pictures (or both) USING THIS TEMPLATE. If you know veterans personally, you can write the letters specifically to those people and hand-deliver them. Or, you can write two general letters and deliver or mail them to your nearest Veterans home.
Here are ideas for you to consider as you craft your thank you letters to veterans. Veterans also love artwork!
Thank you for serving our country.
I think you are brave because…
I am grateful for veterans because…
I think you are a hero because….
Thank you for protecting our country’s freedoms while serving.
I think a veteran is _________ because…
I think it is important to honor our veterans because….
This Veterans Day, I want to share my gratitude because…
STEP 3: Hand-deliver your letters to veterans you know, or mail your letters to a local Veterans home (https://nasvh.org/directory/) or Walter Reed National Military Medical Center:
American Red Cross in the National Capital Region c/o Cards for Veterans at Walter Reed 8550 Arlington Blvd. Fairfax, VA 22031
Before his final deployment to Iraq, Travis left us with a simple but powerful ethos. “If Not Me, Then Who...” describes the sense of duty felt by service members and their families. Today it is a constant reminder for all of us to live with character and put the interests of others before our own.
Thank you for stepping up to honor our veterans to lead with your character!
