    Help your neighbors in need today by volunteering to distribute boxes and bags of food to those who need a little extra food assistance.


    Key Responsibilities:


    Volunteers will assist with a variety of tasks to help with the distribution of food boxes to the public.


    Volunteer duties may include:



    • Assist Feeding South Dakota staff by directing traffic

    • Registering guests receiving food using pen and paper or tablet computers

    • Greeting the public

    • Unloading pallets of food into vehicles and ensuring a friendly farewell


    Support/Training:


    Please arrive wearing comfortable clothing in layers and closed-toe/closed-heel shoes. Volunteers will be given instructions and training upon arrival and will have staff support and supervision throughout their shift.


    What to wear:


    Distributions are held outside, please dress accordingly for all types of weather. Wear comfortable clothing in layers. Fully enclosed shoes are required, 100% of the foot must be covered. No crocks, sandals, Keen sandals, etc. If you arrive not wearing appropriate footwear, we will kindly ask that you leave and change shoes or volunteer with us another time.



    Qualifications:



    • Ability to stand and walk for 2-3 hours at a time

    • Ability to lift about 10 to 30 pounds

    • Work will be outdoors in winter weather. Please dress accordingly.


    Age Requirements:


    This position may be working outdoors in a parking lot around vehicle traffic. For safety reasons, all volunteers must be 11 years or older. Volunteers under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.


     Volunteer and Guest Safety: 



    • It’s important to Feeding South Dakota that our guests and volunteers feel safe while promoting a judgement-free zone.

    • If a volunteer witnesses something that they believe could be abuse or harassment by or to a volunteer or guest, please notify a staff member.

    • If a volunteer feels uncomfortable because of item(s) in a vehicle (a threatening dog, etc.) and doesn’t feel safe to complete their assigned task, please defer to staff.
